The challenges posed by research and exploration coupled with Eyley’s unwavering curiosity and dedication to her career as a performing musician are encompassed in her Doctoral Research thesis – The anachronism of the operatic Travesti in the 21st Century.
The heightened emotional temperature surrounding type casting and gender discussion continues to infiltrate the arts sector. Challenging the ideals of performing en travesti has arguably never been more plausible. It is this anachronism of a bygone era that is growing exponentially and currently of huge significance across all spheres.
As an experienced lecturer and advocate for the art of performing en travesti, Eyley’s research is a valuable addition not only to current scholarship but an interest that is practical to the profession itself; it formalises methodological approaches to identify practical tools and notes on observation to aid singers in their understanding, preparation and performance of the Travesti. Addressing challenges of artistry and of gender faced by singers within the modern idiom are current: they are now, they are timely, relevant and original.

Der Kunstsektor ist heutzutage immer wieder durchwoben von emotional gesteigerten Meinungen in Bestetzungsfragen bezüglich Typus und geschlechtsspezifischen Diskussionen. Es war niemals mehr angebracht als jetzt die Ideale der ‚En travestie‘-darstellung anzusprechen. Es ist genau dieser Anachronismus einer vergangenen Epoche, der sich momentan im exponentiellen Wachstum befindet und in allen Bereichen von großer Bedeutung ist.
In eigener Erfahrung als Referentin und Befürworterin der Kunst der ‚En travestie‘- darstellung erweist sich Eyleys Forschung nicht nur als wertvolle Ergänzung zur aktuellen Wissenschaft, sondern ist auch von praktischer Bedeutung zum eigentlichen Beruf; sie formalisiert methodische Denkansätze, um praktische Arbeitsmittel und Beobachtungsanmerkungen zu finden, welche Sängern in ihrem Verständnis und in der Vorbereitung zur ‚En travestie‘-darstellung helfen können. Sich als Sänger den Herausforderungen der Kunst und des Geschlechts innerhalb der modernen Ausdrucksweise zu stellen ist aktuell: diese sind gegenwärtig, sie sind zeitgemäß, relevant und urtypisch.

Les débats qui entourent le casting de type et la discussion sur le genre continuent d’infiltrer le secteur des arts. La remise en question des idéaux de la performance en travesti n’a sans doute jamais été aussi pertinente. Cet anachronisme d’une époque révolue prend de plus en plus d’ampleur et revêt actuellement une grande importance dans tous les domaines.
Enrichis par son expérience de maîtresse de conférence et sa défense de la performance en travesti, les travaux d’Eyley sont un atout précieux non seulement pour le monde de la recherche, mais pour la profession elle-même; son travail formalise des approches méthodologiques et identifie des outils pratiques pour aider les chanteurs dans leur compréhension, leur préparation et leur interprétation du Travesti. Les défis que rencontrent les chanteurs dans leur pratique artistique et face à la question du genre sont aujourd’hui d’actualité, pertinents et originaux.
